Benefits of Massage For Your Mental Health

It goes without saying that this year has been full of anxiety and worry with many people suffering from the mental aspects that the coronavirus pandemic has had on all of us.

The number of cases of depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has soared over the last ten months and although there have been glimmers of hope that life can return to some sense of normality it does not really help everyone at the moment.

Massage therapy is renowned for having a positive effect not just on our physical well being but our mental health too.  However with massage providers currently closed it is important to book in your appointments as soon as there is a clear date that they can reopen.

But what does massage actually do for our mental health?

Studies have been conducted around the benefits of massage therapy for those who are living with depression, whether it is as an independent concern or running alongside another health issue.

Aromatherapy has long been proved to be effective for providing a relaxing environment and adding massage into the mix can take it that extra step.  However, if you are suffering from a serious depressive disorder it has been claimed that a Swedish massage can provide you with a better outcome.

Anxiety has become a massive issue this year with many people who have had to shield for so long still struggling to find their way back into the world.  A massage, even from a loved one, can help relieve the symptoms of anxiety and is something that should be considered to have before you leave the house.

Not only does the human touch help to put you slightly more at ease it can also reduce the feelings of anxiety from building up inside.

Patients who have been admitted to hospital for a plethora of health issues have also seen a decrease in their anxiety following massage, either with or without aromatherapy, including those who are in palliative care.

If you are having issues that you feel massage can help you with but are unable to see a professional massage therapist we have many accessories, music and training DVDs that can help you and your family, such as our Vulsini At Home range which includes our Beginner’s Hot Stone Kit.

Each Beginner’s Kit includes a Vulsini Lux Mini Heating Bag, 24 piece Basalt stone set, a Hot Stone Ambient Music CD, Belly Bag and an illustrated guide to ensure you get the most from your kit.
